Jeep Grand Cherokee on amerikkalaiseen Chrysler-konseniin kuuluvan Jeep-divisioonan, vuodesta 1992 lähtien valmistama, keskikokoinen SUV. Vaikka monet samankaltaisia autoja tuottaneet yhtiöt valmistivat ajoneuvonsa erilliskorisina, Jeep Grand Cherokee on aina käyttänyt itsekantavaa koria.
Yleistä
Grand Cherokeen alkuperä juontuu vuoteen 1983, jolloin American Motors Corporation (AMC) suunnitteli seuraajaa Jeep Wagoneer SJ -mallille ja tämän työn ensimmäisenä tuloksena syntyi pienempikokoinen Jeep Cherokee XJ. Kehitystyötä jatkettiin ja vuonna 1989 esimakua uudesta ja suuremmasta mallista annettiin Jeep Concept 1 -showauton myötä.
Uuden Jeep-mallin kehitystyö oli pitkällä ja Chrysler-yhtymän Jeep-divisioonan johto olisi halunnut aloittaa sen valmistuksen 1980- ja 90-lukujen vaihteessa.
